We Gather in God's Name
Call To Worship
Leader: We are gathered to worship our God.
People: Send your Spirit upon us.
Leader: We come from many places, with many burdens.
People: Send you Spirit upon us..
Leader: We turn our hearts to you, O God.
People: Send your Spirit upon us, and make us your beloved family.
Opening Prayer
Into your presence we come, Parent God as your children have done throughout the centuries. In vast Cathedrals, parish Churches, Chapels, homes, warehouses, converted cinemas, in lonely isolated places, and now in digital places. Alone or gathered together with others, your Church is wherever your people meet together in worship, in fellowship and in prayer. In this season of repentance and healing, we accept God’s invitation to be ever-mindful of the needs of others, offering our prayers on behalf of God’s community in the church and world. Amen.
We Hear God's Word
Psalm 25: 1-10
Mark 1:9-15
We Respond in Prayer
Prayers for One Another
(Please stand when offering a prayer, so others will know you have the floor.)
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever.
Amen.
Closing Prayer
God of wilderness and water, your Son was baptized and tempted as we are. Guide us through this season, that we may not avoid struggle, but open ourselves to blessing, through the cleansing depths of repentance and the heaven-rending words of the Spirit. Amen.
We Go in Peace
Passing the Peace of Christ
(Each person says a line of the blessing, adding the name of someone present at the end of the line. If there are more than 8 people present, two or more names may be added at the end of a line).
May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you, [name]
wherever he may send you, [name]
may he guide you through the wilderness, [name]
protect you through the storm, [name]
may he bring you home rejoicing, [name]
at the wonders he has shown you, [name]
may he bring you home rejoicing, [name]
once again into our doors, [name].
