Time of the Church 2

We Gather in God's Name

Call to Worship: The Bells of Taize

Opening Song: The Kingdom of God

The Kingdom of God is justice and peace
And joy in the Holy Spirit
Come, Lord, and open to us
The gate of your kingdom

We Hear God's Word

Old Testament Scripture

from Psalm 27

The Lord is my light and my help; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the stronghold of my life; before whom shall I shrink?

Though an army encamp against me my heart would not fear. Though war break out against me even then would I trust.

There is one thing I ask of the Lord, for this I long, to live in the house of the Lord, all the days of my life, to savor the sweetness of the Lord, to behold his temple.

For God makes me safe in his tent in the day of evil. God hides me in the shelter of his tent, on a rock I am secure.

Song: Bless the Lord, My Soul

Bless the Lord, my soul
And bless God's holy name
Bless the Lord, my soul
who leads me into life.

New Testament Scripture

1 John 3:16-20

We know love by this, that Jesus laid down his life for us—and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

We Respond in Prayer

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession

Please stand when offering a prayer, so others will know you have the floor.

A Time of Silence

This time is the heart of the Taize service -- please use it to meditate or reflect silently on all the prayers that have been voiced, as well as those that remain unvoiced.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

We Go in Peace

Closing Song

Jesus, Remember Me

Jesus, remember me
When you come into your kingdom.
Jesus, remember me
When you come into your kingdom.
