23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

We Gather in God's Name

Call to Worship: The Bells of Taize

Opening Song: Alleluia

We Hear God's Word

Old Testament Scripture

"Psalm 32"

Happy those whose offense is forgiven, whose sin is remitted. O happy those to whom the Lord imputes no guilt, in whose spirit is no guile.

Now I have acknowledged my sins; my guild I did not hide. I said: "I will confess my offense to the Lord." And you, Lord, have forgiven the guilt of my sin.

So let faithful people pray to you in the time of need. The floods of water may reach high but they shall stand secure. You are my hiding place , O Lord; you save me from distress.

Rejoice, rejoice in the Lord, exult, you just! O come, ring out your joy, all you upright of heart.

Song: O Lord Hear My Prayer

New Testament Scripture

"Matthew 6:6 & 6:16-18"

Jesus said: Whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

We Respond in Prayer

Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession

Please stand when offering a prayer, so others will know you have the floor.

A Time of Silence

This time is the heart of the Taize service -- please use it to meditate or reflect silently on all the prayers that have been voiced, as well as those that remain unvoiced.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

We Go in Peace

Closing Song

In the Lord I'll Be Ever Thankful
